Does Auto Insurance Cover Damage from a Rollover?

Auto insurance provides protection from a variety of risks. In some cases, it can cover the damage to your car if you are in a rollover event. This is not always the case, though. It is very important for individuals to have proper coverage to cut this type of financial loss. What type of coverage can protect you?

What Coverage You Need
Comprehensive and liability insurance does not cover rollover events. If you have collision auto insurance, it may help you. This type specifically covers events when your vehicle collides with another vehicle or other property. It provides financial protection to you for damage to your car. In a rollover, the details of the situation matter.

What Caused the Accident? 2 men and 2 women in a car
If someone hit you at a high speed, this could cause a rollover to occur. In this case, the other driver's auto insurance often will coverage for your losses. This occurs when the police rule they were at fault. However, if their insurance is not enough, your own underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage can help. Most drivers should maintain this type of coverage.

If you caused the accident, or weather conditions did, your collision insurance applies. This includes situations such as striking a pole at a high speed. It may include instances of driving too fast around a curve. Your insurer may decide not to cover instances resulting from reckless driving, though.

What Coverage Means to You
If you have auto insurance like this, the insurer will work with you to file a claim. The car insurance agent will likely require you to get an estimate for the damage.

Rollovers create a significant amount of damage. The frame itself could be beyond repair. It is not uncommon, then, for the insurer to total the car. If this occurs, the insurance company pays you the amount of the car’s worth prior to the accident. This is not the same as the amount you purchased the car for. It also is not the same, necessarily, as what you owe on the vehicle.

Rollovers are dangerous situations. Work closely with your car insurance agent to determine the best way to handle the incident. If repairs are necessary, work to receive enough financial coverage to get your car back to a safe and secure condition. Your auto insurance agent can help make sure this happens.
