How General Liability Insurance Can Protect Your Hotel

If you run a hotel, business insurance is absolutely crucial. Running a hotel means facing a range of liability risks while serving and housing guests for both short and long stays.

Commercial liability risks vary. However, by getting a general liability policy, you have a lot of protection for many of the most-common types of risks.

What is a General Liability Policy?
General liability insurance is a type of business coverage that will apply to the risks of harm you pose other people.

If your mistakes harm someone else — such as one of your clients — then you might cause them losses. As a result, they might sue you, or request that you cover their losses. It is your general liability insurance that might help you do so.

Policies might pay not only for the client’s losses, but also for your own legal costs. Therefore, both parties won’t have to suffer unbearable financial losses because of honest mistakes.

Coverage Policies Offer
All commercial general liability policies will vary. However, many will offer at least a few of the coverage options below.

1. Bodily injury coverage

This coverage will pay for the physical injuries others sustain because of your mistakes. So, if a guest slips and falls because you left the lobby’s floor wet, then this coverage can help pay their medical bills. It might also cover lost income, and potentially death benefits.

2. Property Damage Coverage

You have to respect the belongings of others. Therefore, if you damage items, then you might have to repay them. For example, if a staff member damages someone’s belongings while cleaning a room, then this coverage can pay.

3. Personal/Advertising Injury Coverage

One of your clients might allege that your actions caused libel or slander against them. For example, you might post on social media how a client left a dirty room, calling them by name when you do so. As a result, they could feel attacked, and could even suffer consequences as a result of your actions.

The client might sue you because they feel the action and allegation was unjustified. If that happens, this coverage can help you make up for the losses. These policies might also pay for the losses you suffer if you cause harm to others through your advertising.

Ask your insurance agent about additional liability insurance including umbrella liability, which can fill in gaps left by your other liability insurance policies.
